Jailed labour rights

advocates face prison

Once again this week I need to ask for your help to secure the release
of jailed workers.

This time it's the Vietnamese government which is at fault. They've
jailed three young labour rights advocates who face up to 15 years
imprisonment for organizing a strike by some 10,000 workers at a shoe
factory back in January.

Here are the activists - Doan Huy Chuong, Nguyen Hoang Quoc Hung, and
Do Thi Minh Hanh:

They need our help.

Their trial is expected to start this month, so it's urgent that we
flood the authorities with messages of protest.

Please take a moment to send off your message now

.

Meanwhile, DHL is facing a major trade union campaign organized by
two global union federations (the ITF and UNI). Check out their new
website < http://www.itfglobal.org/dhlblog />
where you can also send off a message
to the company.

Finally, you might find my latest podcast on labour and technology of
some interest this week -- it focusses on online communities and one
of the challenges we face when building them. You can listen to it
here < http://traffic.libsyn.com/ericlee/podcast20101015.mp3 >
.

Thanks very much for your continuing support and help.
